Paradigm! ughghghgh!

Paradigm is a perspective- for example, it is how you are "set in your ways" about something..  Your point of view that typically you refuse to change.  (Could be a stereotype, a grudge, or a belief about yourself, that you continue to hold on to and may even refuse to change.)  What paradigm do you hold about yourself and how do you think it has hurt you or possibly helped you?

(Ex:   "I suck at English classes!   I can never pass them!"   With this in your mind you have doomed yourself to never try, let alone believe you can even be good at it ever!!   It can ruin a relationship with every teacher of English you encounter AND with others in the class whom you have to work with.  It may even get to the point that it annoys your friends or teacher and shuts them out while they were trying to change your paradigm!)

  1. My paradigm that I hold about myself is if I think positive, I’ll have positive results. Before I established this for myself, I was always a pessimist. I never felt that anything I had truly wanted for myself would happen. I used this paradigm to help me. Prior to being the way I am now, I used to weigh about 60 pounds more in my freshman year of high school. I continuously worked out and at first there wasn’t much results however I became tired of having a negative attitude about my results so I decided to say, “Positive attitude, and positive results”. Ever since then, I’ve stuck to that and accomplished many of my short-term goals such as losing all that weight in the course of two summers. I won’t change it because it has helped me through a lot.

    1. When I first read this prompt I only thought of a paradigm as a bad thing. So I thought to myself trying to think of one and found none, and I was happy about this. Not until I came back and saw your post did I realize I missed a whole other side to paradigms. Again I thought to myself, and again I found none, but this time I was disappointed with myself. Your idea that “if I think positive, I’ll have positive results” is great advice. From now on I hope to keep this paradigm in my thought, and try to abide by it. Hopefully it brings me as well as it did for you. Thank you for the inspiration.

    2. Imagine what an impact a negative paradigm may have on someone. If this person was told and basically believed he or she was "stupid" or maybe would be "fat" since the family is or told him so for years. Scary thought, huh? Paradigms can be negative an confine a person, but the positive paradigms, just as powerful, can immensely impact a person's outlook on life. Does this make sense?

  3. My Paradigm would probably be that I’ve always done what I wanted to or what I thought it was right for me. Since I was a little kid I’ve always had a mind of my own. I never liked other people’s opinion because in my mind the only one that matter was mine. This has hurt me and helped all at the same time. It has hurt me because I’ve had problems with my teachers or the adults around me and even my parents at times. Teachers hate this kind of attitude and throughout my school years it has brought me a lot of problems. However this kind of attitude has helped me in becoming the type of person that I am now. I consider myself a strong-minded person that doesn’t let others influence his decisions.
